“It’s a BYOB event,” says newly-elected Bayview Leaside BIA chair Trae Zammit of The Smokin’ Cigar. “That means, Bring Your Own Broom, and help us clean up the community.”
The new Business Improvement Area’s fall Sweep the Streets Campaign takes place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m. Anyone willing to help should meet at the northwest corner of Millwood and Bayview. “This is our first official event,” says Zammit. “We’re walking before we can run. Then our priority this fall will be developing a marketing plan to put in place for the Christmas season.”
All commercial properties on Bayview between Davisville and Soudan are a part of the catchment area of the BIA. Zammit says the first levy has already appeared on the most recent City of Toronto property tax bill of commercial property owners.
The other officers chosen from among the board members elected at the BIA’s first meeting in the spring were Grant Allardyce of The Source Menswear as vice-chair, Stephen Betts of TD Canada Trust as treasurer and Stanley Janecek of White House Meats as secretary. The next general meeting will be in January.
