After a dramatic election that saw the number of city council seats nearly halved and Leaside become the new Ward 15, we welcome two new faces to our community. Councillor Jaye Robinson, who previously represented Ward 25, is now councillor for our area. As she told Leaside Life, “I am really looking forward to working with the residents of Leaside on the issues that matter most to them. For some, the change in leadership at city council may be difficult but I am personally excited to represent Leaside (and Ward 15) and look forward to working collaboratively with the residents of Leaside. It was a hard fought election, thanks to all the people on my team who helped push us over the finish line.”

Earlier this year, long-time trustee Gerri Gershon announced her retirement. Our new trustee, Rachel Chernos Lin, is a North Leaside parent for whom this is her first election. As she told us, “I am very much looking forward to representing the constituents of Don Valley West at the TDSB! Although the new job doesn’t officially start until December, my calendar is quickly filling up with meetings and learning sessions as I transition into this new role. We’ve got a lot of work to do planning for development, making sure kids and teachers are well supported and advocating for better and fairer funding of our Board. It’s going to take collaboration and a creative approach, and I can’t wait to get started!”

She joins Angela Kennedy, returning trustee of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

We especially want to acknowledge the efforts of Jon Burnside, our councillor for the past four years, who served Leaside with dedication, energy and passion. All the best to Jon, our fellow Leasider.
