More games here for big tourney

The new second ice rink at Leaside Arena made a big difference this year at the Leaside Hockey Association’s 26th annual Select Invitational.

With 2,000 boys from 116 hockey teams playing the weekend of February 4-7, three quarters of the games would again have had to be at other arenas around the city.

“This year,” said Susan Irving, of the LHA board, “we used both rinks here all weekend and were able to have all the Sunday finals games here.”

This year 46 percent of the games were played here. Previously the Sunday games were all over the city.
