On October 25th, the team played at Georges Vanier and swept all their games before taking the final in a nailbiter against Malvern Collegiate. While the Leaside Lancers were down two tries to the Black Knights, they staged a momentous comeback to win the city title.
The girls, coach Al Scharlach notes, “persisted and played well as a team.”
Described by Scharlach as a “dedicated, spirited group,” the team comprised new and returning players, including captain Claire Bryan.
Bryan has been playing rugby since she was six, and with 10 years of play under her belt “still love(s) every practice and game.”
She notes that there was a lot of hard work and much improvement as the season progressed, which led to the ultimate success.
Bryan points out, “if it wasn’t for our coaches and our supporters, including the boys team, I don’t think we would have won our final game.”
Congratulations to the team on yet another championship season!
