The big event at the 11th annual Leaside Guys Night Out last month was created by Randolph Rd. resident Stan Flemming, who donated over 1,000 toys to the Christmas toy drive.
There were also over 200 presents and over $6,500 raised at the Leaside Pub for distributing gifts to over 2,500 children in Thorncliffe Park, where 50 percent of the children live below the poverty line.
Ahmed Hussein, executive director of the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office, told the 100 men at the Dec. 5 event how grateful residents were for the Christmas help. He said 30,000 people live in a space created for 12,500 because housing has become so expensive and work for immigrants is hard to find.
