Millwood Mystery: Who’s behind the flyer?

On Development

As noted in my December 2025 column  in Leaside Life1, the application at 922 Millwood Rd. for an eight-storey mid-rise development has sat…and sat…and sat, until the City’s community consultation meeting on the application in December 2025.

In early March this year, several residents in the immediate area received a flyer in their mailboxes, headlined “Important Notice for Neighbours” and asking for neighbours to “get involved” in the development by clicking on a QR code to sign a “community statement” and “join a WhatsApp group.”

However, what puzzled several people was that nowhere was there a contact name or address for “the undersigned residents of Millwood community.” The lack of transparency about the authors of this flyer raises a public safety concern: the possibility that an anonymous group could use the personal information provided for nefarious reasons.

Speaking as co-president of the Leaside Residents Association, we share those concerns. Encouragement to participate – sure – but the author(s) of the flyer must identify themselves.

We recommend not clicking on the QR codes on the flyer. Meanwhile, as noted, the application continues to sit…and sit. …But, be assured that, if and when it does start to move, either forward for consideration by Community Council, or appealed by the applicant to the Ontario Land Tribunal, the LRA will be actively encouraging involvement in the process, as well as directly representing the community as necessary.
