Let the tunnelling begin

This will be the year of tunnelling in Leaside, west from Brentcliffe, for the LRT, which means lots of traffic restrictions and disruptions.

Here’s the discomfiting news from Eglinton Crosstown:

“Generally, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction along Eglinton Ave. East in the work zone. Traffic will be shifted as the construction progresses.

There will be short-term local street closures and turning restrictions to allow for the construction to take place.

On-street parking will not be permitted within the work zones.

Temporary relocation of TTC bus stops in the affected area will be required for the safety of the transit riders. Watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.

Pedestrian walkways will remain open. Watch for additional signs directing pedestrians.

Depending on site conditions, gas, hydro, water mains, sewers, traffic and street lighting, as well as telephone lines will be relocated to allow for construction.

The hours of work as permitted by the city bylaw are between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week, when required. Some overnight work may be required.”

“Underground tunnelling and associated work may continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
