An invitation to attend the New Year’s Levee, co-hosted by Don Valley West MP Rob Oliphant and MPP Stephanie Bowman, and receive an award for Leaside Life’s 15 years of contributions to the community came as a jolt to me. I realized at the same time that I am now marking a decade as editor of Leaside Life. As the old saying goes, how time flies when you’re having fun. And make no mistake: we are having fun while working hard.
On stage sharing the honours with me were three of the other “ladies of Leaside Life” – designer Robin Dickie, webmaster Erin Sorhaug, and advertising coordinator extraordinaire Karli Vezina, part of the wonderful team I am privileged to work with for 12 issues a year.
As part of the ceremony, I was asked two questions for a video interview with MP Oliphant:
- What accomplishments are you most proud of?
- What is your vision for your organization for the future?
Leaside Life’s raison d’être has always been “local, local, local,” to hold up a mirror and try to be a voice for our growing, evolving community. It’s a big accomplishment, and one we take very seriously and work hard to support. As for our vision for the future? Leaside Life is not sitting still. We want to expand our reach by appealing to more young people, to tell their stories and invite them to join us as we hold up a mirror to our ever-changing community.
