This summer, the Leaside Garden Society celebrated the summer glory of our community’s most spectacular gardens. In early July, LGS committee members set out under brilliant skies to discover which Leaside and Bennington Heights gardens were shining brightest at the height of the season. With the ongoing heat wave, many front yards have taken on a lush, almost tropical quality — with vines climbing high, vibrant blooms spilling over pathways, and greenery flourishing in near-jungle abundance.
Over the course of a week, pairs of volunteers surveyed North and South Leaside as well as Bennington Heights, dividing the neighbourhood into six sections to ensure no garden was overlooked. From each area, the most impressive gardens were brought forward for the committee’s final review.
When judging the gardens, the committee considered texture and design, diversity of plantings, pollinator-friendly features, and, of course, that elusive “wow factor.” The result: six outstanding gardens selected for recognition this year. Be sure to look for them on your walks through the neighbourhood:
25 Rykert Cres., 135 Sutherland Dr., 102 Leacrest Rd., 801 Millwood Rd., 24 Bennington Heights Dr., and 510 Broadway Ave.
Here are some of them!

The Leaside Garden Society extends heartfelt thanks to our dedicated committee members, whose time, care, and expertise made this year’s awards possible.
