The Leaside Business Park got special mention last month for helping create a Centre of Excellence in Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park, where there will be free sports and leadership training for youth.
There was a groundbreaking ceremony last month for the Valley Park Go Green Cricket Field and Centre of Excellence, with Premier Kathleen Wynne attending.
Lisa Grogan-Green, co-chair of the centre, has written:
“The Leaside Business Park Association led by president Dag Enhorning has been a loyal project supporter since the start of Phase One…
“LBPA businesses, including Lincoln Electric, Siltech Corp. and Tremco Inc. have been loyal project supporters along with the Kiwanis Club of East York.
“This group also attended the project’s Phase One Crazy for Cricket Gala held at Delta Scarborough Hotel a year ago last fall. In addition, Tremco generously donated tickets so that Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park youth could attend the $100 a plate dinner.
“Tremco employees sat with these youth… some of whom have since trained as coaches for when the field opens next summer…
“Plans are now underway for a Phase Two door-to-door canvassing campaign…. Targeted will be nearby businesses and potentially even Leaside residents if the group can get greater assistance.
“The group will be studying the success of the Leaside Arena’s fundraising hoping to capture some of its generous Leaside donors.”
