Leaside Life columnist Karen Fraser has leaped to the rescue of the First Nations School of Toronto. As executive director of the charitable Learning Support Council she was asked to help find backpacks for the school’s 100 first-year students who all showed up without them. She arranged for Sleuth of Baker Street, 907 Millwood, to accept donations of used to good backpacks during its open hours, Thursday to Saturday 10-6, Sunday 12-4.

There was a goof in the ad for the Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury ad in the paper last month. The BBQ and bible study under the carousel on Wednesday evenings ended in the fall.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 2 to 8 p.m., Leaside will continue an unusually successful run of blood donor clinics for over 10 years.
Northlea school has collected over 100 units at of blood at each twice-a-year clinic, with the exception of two since 2003. That’s a rarity inside the GTA. The most recent peak was 146 units in April 2011.
